Meaningful work. Was this review helpful? Report Share. Extremely toxic environment, overworked employees, politics, no work-life balance, pay was good for the area but the environment there alone makes you want to leave. Everyone is stressed, management is constantly going back on their word. Yes There are 3 helpful reviews 3 No. I worked for several years at MMA until I had to relocate.
We discussed working remotely but at the time it was not a good fit for me. I definitely would work for this Company again. Meeting Planning statistically is one of the most stressful jobs due to all the deadlines so it is not for everyone. Those that get disgruntled with the company, tend to be disgruntled with the industry--not necessarily MMA. The hardest part of meeting planning are all the deadlines.
The most enjoyable part are the people you meet, our colleagues and some of the cool places you get to see. Pros Working with great people, companies and striving to be the best. Cons Deadlines. Yes No There are 2 unhelpful reviews 2. I started my career at MMA and am now a very successful and self employed medical event director. MMA introduced me to the world of medical conferences and events by giving me the opportunity to travel, exposing me to many different elements of convention management, and giving me large amounts of responsibility and areas for advancement in a short amount of time.
In addition to a fast-paced career, I was mentored by the President and Vice-President of the company throughout my career there. When I decided to move out of state, the President was not only very understanding and supportive of my decision, she personally recommended me for my next job, which I stayed at for the next 7 years. MMA is a fast-paced, multi-faceted job with opportunities to grow your career in a variety of ways. I am very grateful for my time there and the experience I gained as a member of their team.
Cons Has busy seasons with extensive travel.
Yes No There are 3 unhelpful reviews 3. MMA provides opportunities to work with large companies throughout the United States and some internationally that don't typically exist in locations as small as Sherburne, NY. There are high performance expectations throughout the company with highly involved management. There are continuous efforts to make the company enhancements through an open door policy and team feedback. In addition to standard salaries there are several events focused on the team such as cookouts, events outside of the office, added days off and holiday gatherings.
Nothing about the job is monotonous - there are opportunities to increase your skill set and receive career certifications. Titles, however, are not important to management and if there's an all hands on deck type of need, the President is the first to volunteer her time. There isn't any job at MMA that she hasn't done or wouldn't be willing to do at any time. It's a great company to work for that values all employees. Cons An industry that is high stress and timeline oriented. Yes There are 2 helpful reviews 2 No There are 3 unhelpful reviews 3. Would you recommend working at your company?
Help people considering your employer make a good choice. This is a high stress office with a penchant for perfection. Employee turnover is notoriously high. Management bites off more than they can chew and everything rolls down hill.
You do not want to be at the bottom of this hill. Worklo are constantly being 'realigned' and compensation doesn't reflect workload. The mental health of MMA employees tends to suffer due to high stress, pressures of demanding management and general burn out due to heavy work lo. MMA attempts to mask the toxic environment with perks. Favoritism is rampant throughout this small office. Pros "Perks" include: massage chair, holiday party, bonuses.
Cons High stress, constant change, very demanding, cut throat culture. Yes There are 9 helpful reviews 9 No There are 2 unhelpful reviews 2. When I started with this company, it was a challenging, stressful yet rewarding job. A lot has changed. Management changes on the major was a catalyst for disaster. The cut-throat, bus-throwing, snide, childish, gossipy lack of professionalism in the management aspect creates a nasty, toxic, back-watching culture that has majorly impacted the loss of 7 out of about 20 staff in the past year.
They're claiming they're "expansion" right now, however they're merely back-filling 4 out of those 7 positions. The work was interesting, I grew a love for the industry, I loved to travel, and I gained an incredible amount of knowledge during my time here. If the company culture could return to what it was, I would call this a good place to work.
That said, given the current trend I believe it's too far gone. Most concerning, way too much of the business is centered around one who hasn't been happy for quite some time. If this moves it's work internally or moves to another vendor, I would be fearful for any new hires and the company's ability to survive overall.
JB - before you respond to this review claiming my angst is about about a lack of promotion, you couldn't pay me enough to take on a management role under you. I was happy where I was until the place started falling apart. The goal of my review is to provide my honest assessment of my experience at your company for those seeking employment with you, and to demonstrate that while you try to keep everyone on a tight leash, there are indeed consequences of crushing your staff until they break.
Pros Staff lunches and BBQ's, some nice coworkers, travel, perks, interesting work, lots to learn. Cons Skelaton crew for the work expected, impossibly high standards with virtually no support, petty, gossipy, childish management. Yes There are 8 helpful reviews 8 No There are 4 unhelpful reviews 4.
